Taking a deposit before work starts
Set a deposit on the project and HelloNoa raises the deposit invoice for you the moment the contract is signed.
A deposit protects your time before you start. In HelloNoa you set it once on the project, and the deposit invoice is raised for you at the right moment, you do not create it by hand.
Set the deposit on the project
Open the project and find its project details (the passport). Set Ask for a deposit to Yes, then enter a deposit percentage, the share of the project total you want up front (50% is a common choice). That is the only step you need to take.
The deposit invoice raises itself
Once your client signs the contract, HelloNoa creates a draft Deposit Invoice for that percentage of the agreed fee, ready for you to review and send. There is no "mark as deposit" button on an invoice, the deposit comes from the project, so the figures always match what was agreed.
The balance is tracked for you
Your later invoices on the same project automatically account for what the client has already paid, so the remaining balance is always clear to both of you. Asking for a deposit before you start is completely normal for freelance work, and most clients expect it.
